"Something There and Never There 那是有又沒有" Leung Chi Wo 梁志和 – 23.1 – 10.3.2018 – Opening Reception:20.1.2018, Saturday, 4 – 6:30pm Artist will be present. – “Something There and Never There” is the solo exhibition of Leung Chi Wo, centred around the tumultuous year of 1967 in Hong Kong. Linking his own biography to the history of the city, Leung constructs parallel worlds that connect vastly different events, characters and objects together. Civilian riots and vintage Volkswagen, student protests and Charlie Chaplin’s film, political propaganda and songs by The Beatles: they all crossed paths by coincidence without our knowledge or entering into official history. By using diverse media including photography, video, and installations comprising of found images, music and objects from 1967, Leung performs a deep engagement with a subjective history through archival research, conceptual intervention and poetic re-imagination. The artist demonstrates that history is full of ambivalence, absurdity and ambiguities, and that through re-enacting and reconstructing these episodes in 1967, one can as well reflect on the current socio-political situation in Hong Kong. – Details 詳情: blindspotgallery.com/exhibition/something-there-and-never-there #Blindspotgallery #hongkongartist #LeungChiWo #梁志和 #1967riots #hongkonghistory #installation #photography #thebeatles #propaganda #charliechaplin #volkswagenbeetle

The exhibition encompasses his latest works in a diverse range of media, including traditional Chinese lacquer woodcarving, traditional Suzhou embroidery, porcelain, acrylic on canvases and screen prints. Fusing together elements such as classical Chinese motifs, characters from old Chinese folk tales or Western comics, Tsai deploys aesthetically pleasing and fun imageries to present contemporary subject matters, which are often major current topics and social issues affecting contemporary societies today. Artwork: Shanghai Tang Café 上海灘餐廳 | Embroidery on Silk Satin 蘇繡 | 50 x 150 cm | 2017 #jackytsai #contemporaryart #chinese #artist #exhibition #lacquercarving #embroidery #porcelain #acryliconcanvas #contemporarybyangelali #gallery #hkartgal #cbal #artoftheday #artofinstagram

We're pleased to present "Keith Coventry: Golden Arches," opening Wednesday, 22 November at our Hong Kong gallery. – #KeithCoventry’s work filters everyday subject matter, such as fast food, the British Monarchy, and addiction through the lens of modernist idealism. This exhibition is a continuation of Coventry's visual experimentation with the #McDonalds logo. He started manipulating the logo in 2000, inspired by the discarded fast-food wrappers that accumulated outside his studio. – Join us for the opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 at #PaceGallery, 15C Entertainment Building, 30 Queens Road Central, Hong Kong. – Image: Keith Coventry, "Golden Arches XVII," 2017, gesso, glass, wood, bronze, and gold. 133 cm x 110 cm x 7 cm (52-3/8" x 43-5/16" x 2-3/4"), framed © Keith Coventry

This is Wang Xin’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong and new work is showcased. _ Wang Xin has a penchant for challenging the archaic structure of the art world, as she often takes its institutions, systems, and dogma as her material. Wang Xin is also a certified hypnotist, and uses her work to alter a viewer’s perception and affect their subconscious. Her signature use of rose pink adds to the hypnotising effect, and imbues a sense of fervency within her work. _ #WangXin #TheMustSeeArtShow #deSarthe #deSartheGallery #SICD #HongKong #HK #HongKongArt #HKart #Contemporary #ContemporaryArt #ContemporaryArts #ContemporaryArtist #ContemporaryArtists #Art #Arts #ArtExhibition #Exhibitions #ArtShow #ArtEvent #ArtWorks #LoveArt #Installation #Installations #ArtInstallation #Residency #HongKongArtScene #AsianArtScene #ArtGallery

After just 10 minutes of bidding, a giant record was broken at last night’s @Sothebys postwar and contemporary sale with #Basquiat’s ‘Untitled’ portrait from 1982 selling for a whopping $110.5 million. Who was the buyer? Japanese fashion entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa (@yusaku2020) who also purchased Basquiat’s second most expensive work only a year ago. This sale set additional records as the first work created since 1980 to sell for over $100 million (only 10 works have ever surpassed that mark), the most expensive work by an American artist, and the most expensive work by an African-American artist ever sold. "Seeds of Time” (Shanghai Project Phase 2), at Himalayas Museum #shanghai "Conceived by superstar curators Hans Ulrich Obrist and Yongwoo Lee, the show is an ambitious look at artists and collectives responding to arising crises in sustainability—how do we bridge ever-widening gaps between leading-edge research, polarizing media, and mass understanding? With the exhibition title taken from an eponymous documentary about the agricultural pioneer Cary Fowler, whose fight for crop diversity has culminated in a global seed vault, the ongoing Shanghai Project is driven by a poetic aim: to germinate awareness of the gravity of our shared ecological situation, and have it spread like wild seeds. As the exhibition guides greatly outnumbered the visitors, the space felt like a derelict playground in which pockets of apocalyptic critique and poetic hopefulness co-exist.” (see more in profile link) #seedsoftime #shanghaiproject #shanghaimuseums #sustainability #ecology #當代藝術 #当代艺术 #미술 #アート #seni #ศิลปะ #上海 #상해 #上海 #เซี่ยงไฮ้

[ KAF | What’s Next ] KAF will unveil a new exhibition, ‘The Garden’, at chi art space in Clear Water Bay on 1 September! Local curator/artist #EnochCheng and five other Hong Kong-based artists – #ShaneAspegren, #CheukWingNam, #VvzelaKook, #AndrewLuk, and #SamuelAdamSwope – will present their KAF-commissioned works, alongside creations by #NeïlBeloufa, #CaiKai, and #IanCheng. ‘The Garden’ is an exhibition like a garden in a glasshouse, but without plants. It is a garden not remembered in time; it is nature beyond the harmony of greenery. It is a glasshouse that celebrates motions in the environment and invites everyone to observe a space that is constantly changing. @ac_kaf @k11artfoundation #clearwaterbay #hongkongart #contemporaryart #artinhk #kafthegarden

#HongHao is a Beijing-based artist known for transforming everyday objects into abstract paintings. Using mass-produced materials and found objects, Hong reduces these items to their essential shape, and by diluting each item to its contours on the canvas, he creates abstract forms from specific realities. – Hong Hao will be debuting all new works in a solo exhibition opening ‪8th September‬ at #PaceGallery in Hong Kong. Upcoming [TRAILER] Toshio Matsumoto: Everything Visible Is Empty, opening 9 September, on view through — 18 November 2017. For this exhibition, Empty Gallery has worked closely with the late artist’s archivist in order to present a selection of rarely screened works including Matsumoto’s early documentaries Nishijin and Song of Stone, his landmark expanded cinema work for three projectors, For The Damaged Right Eye, and a selection of his influential abstract short films – all in newly restored versions. Eschewing an organizational approach based on stylistic or chronological development, Everything Visible Is Empty instead seeks to embrace Matsumoto’s critique of “the visible” as a structuring principle, presenting an arrangement of works from different eras and contexts which are nevertheless connected through their shared inquiry into the social construction of history and the agency of the subject within this construction. Considered by no less an authority than new-wave director Nagisa Oshima as his only rival for aesthetic and ideological influence within Japan’s dynamic scene of post-war image makers, Toshio Matsumoto’s films and theoretical writings form an essential but often overlooked contribution to the global history of experimental film and video art which has only just begun to be re-evaluated in recent years. This exhibition serves as a continuation of Lv’s first solo exhibition “Spectacle” in Hong Kong last year. While Lv’s creations are largely about social realism, they are also steeped in a liberal dejection within the context of Chinese contemporary art. #contemporaryart #oilpainting #chinese #contemporarychinese #artist #exhibition #mixedmedia #contemporarybyangelali #gallery #cbal #lvshanchuan #abstract #art #hkartgal

To experience the art of Leang Seckon is to engage with an epic tale and a deep personal narrative of an artist coming to terms with a dark past, while keeping a vigilant, mindful eye in the present. Historic symbols and motifs from ancient Angkorian and Khmer periods are juxtaposed with those of contemporary Cambodia. From discarded materials found and collected, Seckon breathes new life into spent debris, creating complex compositions that are collaged, painted, and sewn onto canvas in layers of time that solidify, like stratified rock, a palpable record of the Cambodian experience. Leang Seckon ‘When Head and Body Unite' at Rossi & Rossi Hong Kong, opening 23 September. #leangseckon #cambodianart #exhibition #HKIG #contemporaryart #rossiandrossi #wongchukhang #hongkong #gallery #southisland #paintings
